Competing as a Law student

As a Law student there are multiple competitions that you can participate in, giving you the opportunity to apply your knowledge and develop the skills that are necessary in real life practice. These skills give you a competitive edge in the profession and can provide you with connections that could potentially shape your career after university.

WHERE COMPETING CAN TAKE YOU:

The White & Case Jessup Cup Moot

The Jessup Moot is the biggest international mooting competition. Previously Jessup has been held in locations such as Washington DC.

The Willem C. Vis Internation Commercial Arbitration Moot

The VIS Moot is another international competition which focuses on resolving international business disputes given in a problem question. This Moot has previously been held in Vienna and Hong Kong.

International Criminal Court Trial Competition

The ICC Moot Court Competition is an extremely valuable competition in regards to education. It runs for six days and not only do you compete but there is countless opportunities for educational and social growth. This competition is run by the International Bar Association and is held in the Netherlands (The Hague).

The Australian Law Student’s Association Championship Moot

The ALSA Championship moot is held in conjunction with the ALSA conference annually. Competitors from Law Student Societies/Associations around Australia, New Zealand and neighbouring Asian countries are invited to participate. SCU has a strong history of competing at ALSA.

The Annual Michael Kirby Contract Law Moot

The Kirby Contract Moot is held each year at Victoria University in Melbourne and is the largest domestic Moot for Australian students. It is considered to be a stepping stone to international mooting, but can also provide students with invaluable connections to those in the legal profession.
